Vaude Hogan UL Tent Reviews, Is it Worth it?
August 31, 2026

If you're looking for a lightweight two-person tent that can handle everything from wet spring backpacking to exposed mountain camps, the Vaude Hogan UL 2P deserves a closer look.

At first glance, the Hogan UL seems to occupy an interesting middle ground. It isn't an extreme ultralight shelter, yet it is considerably lighter and more compact than many traditional camping tents. It uses a double-wall construction, a tunnel/dome-inspired aerodynamic profile, a full-fabric inner, a single front vestibule, and relatively robust waterproof materials.

That combination tells us something important about Vaude's design philosophy: the Hogan UL is not trying to win a race for the lowest possible number on a scale. Instead, it attempts to balance weather protection, durability, interior comfort, and pack weight.

But there is a catch.

With a total listed weight of around 1.86 kg (4 lb 2 oz) and a packed size around 56 × 15 cm, the Hogan UL 2P is no longer considered especially "ultralight" by today's most aggressive backpacking standards. Some modern two-person shelters weigh well under 1.5 kg.

So the real question isn't simply:

"Is the Vaude Hogan UL light?"

The better question is:

"Does the Hogan UL provide enough additional protection and livability to justify carrying roughly 1.8–2.0 kg?"

After years of backpacking, camping, and evaluating outdoor gear, I think that's the question worth answering.
