01 — Light Enough to Carry
The Scout 2P weighs just 1.95 kg (4.3 lbs), including the flysheet, inner tent, 12 stakes, 6 guy lines, the complete pole set, two trekking-pole connectors, and the storage bag. This is the complete shelter you actually carry on the trail, rather than a stripped-down minimum weight.

HillZero chose 20D nylon to meet the weight-conscious demands of backpacking, then added a double-sided silicone coating to improve the fabric's tear resistance and overall performance. It is a material choice built around a simple principle: carry less, without making the shelter feel unnecessarily delicate.
03 — Lighter on Nature
The Scout 2P flysheet uses a PFAS-free material approach, meaning PFAS chemicals are not intentionally added during the treatment of the flysheet fabric. This helps avoid introducing these persistent substances at the material level.

Both the flysheet and inner tent floor are rated to 2500 mm of hydrostatic head and have been evaluated through instrument testing and real-world use. This provides a solid level of protection for a wide range of rain and wet-weather conditions encountered while backpacking.
The waterproofing system goes beyond the fabric itself. Scout 2P uses waterproof-focused construction throughout, with waterproof zippers, dedicated waterproof thread, and optional hand-applied seam sealing for those who want additional protection.

Scout 2P features a vestibule on each side, giving both campers convenient access without having to climb over one another. Open both vestibules at once and the two-sided layout also creates a natural path for airflow through the shelter.
Separated from the sleeping area, the vestibules provide useful space for shoes, packs, small tables, cooking equipment, and other camp essentials. In wet weather, they also create a practical buffer between the outside environment and the sleeping space, helping keep gear and living areas better organized and separated from moisture.

Scout 2P uses an integrated inner-and-fly structure, with the two components remaining connected during normal setup and packing. With the external poles supporting the flysheet, the inner tent is set up at the same time rather than requiring a separate pitching step.

02 — A Drier Place to Sleep
The breathable fabric sections of the inner tent feature a DWR treatment that helps resist light moisture and splash while maintaining the fabric's breathable character. This adds another layer of protection between condensation and the sleeping space.
When moisture forms on the inner surface, the treatment helps water bead and move toward the sides rather than readily soaking into the fabric. It is a small detail, but one that becomes noticeably valuable when you are spending long hours inside the tent.
03 — Strength Without the Extra Weight
Scout 2P uses DAC NSL 9.0 aluminum poles to provide structural support while keeping the overall pole system light enough for backpacking. Reducing unnecessary pole weight matters when every component has to travel on your back.
The poles are also shaped with a controlled pre-bend to create the intended geometry of the shelter and maintain structural support under load. Together with the tent's overall structure, this helps Scout 2P remain stable through strong wind, heavy rain, and changing mountain conditions.
